SUSD Goes GoogleWhat is Google Apps for Education?
Google offers schools a solution for providing email, calendar, drive and other Google Apps within a managed and safe environment. A student's Google Apps for Education (GAFE) account is managed by the district administrator who controls exactly what student can do with specific applications. For example, using GAFE allows a district to enable email for specific users. We can turn it off for students in grades K-2, heavily restrict what can be done with email for grades 3-9 and begin relaxing those restrictions for grades 10-12. These restrictions may be only allowing students to mail other students on their campus to not allowing external emails (from netflix or instagram) to enter into our email system. If teachers already have their own personal Google account they are encouraged to use their school Google account for interacting with students. By using the school Google account users will find the sharing of documents and events much easier than with an outside Google account. Core Google Apps for Education suite includes:
